Synopsis: SIXTEEN is an urban thriller about an African former child soldier called Jumah was brought to London by Laura, an aid worker who he now lives with. Jumah is about to turn 16 in two days and wants to leave his violent past behind him. Things seem to have taken a turn for the better with Jumah now; he has a sweet but tentative romance blossoming with a girl at school. But then Jumah witnesses a stabbing and the people involved want to make sure that he says nothing to the police about what he saw that night. Pressure mounts as violence forces it's way back into Jumah's life.

Timing was of the essence! A lot of filming locations were being knocked down shortly after filming. Sections of the campus used for both the school and police station scenes were being demolished around the cast & crew whilst filming. The exterior tower blocks in South London (also used for filming A Clockwork Orange & Misfits) and the housing estate in East London (used for Made in Dagenham & Fish Tank) were also being demolished and redeveloped shortly after filming wrapped

'Sixteen' (Brown,2013) Trailer Conventions:
Best bits:
When he says 'have you ever held a gun in a mans face' this is powerful shows how he has been through a lot it involves us as it makes us wonder what happened to him and why he has held a gun which intrigues the audience. when he smashes the mirror due to the anger it makes us want to know why he's angry that scene is loud and emotional which involves the audience with curiosity. ' I might not be much of a mother but right now its all you have got' this is an emotional scene which shows tension due to him and what he has done.

Genera of film:
Thriller due to the dramatic scenes of anger and violence shown in addition it highlights when he smashes the mirror, when the man walks into the house and threatens him saying 'stay quiet say nothing' this is a key line from the film because it shows how there's tension and something is going to happen which shows mystery as we as an audience would like to know why he's being threatened and why he's angry.
Film stars:
No names mentioned due to them not being so known due to their lack of appearance in movies. However if the audience likes the look of a character/actor they would search them up and would be more willing to watch the film due to their looks and personality shown.
Fast Visual Images:
The beginning starts off with flashing scenes of the stabbing on the tunnel to them running away,to them being seen by the guy who stabs 'Josh' and lead into the school scene in him in the headteachers office. in addition at the end it shows how he comes to the man that got stabbed, then he punches another man and then to the scene where he picks up the gun and is tempted to use it.

Action interspersed with credits on the screen:
It contains the dramatic scene which leads to this review of a theatrical place (VUE Cinema) which gives positive review which will encourage more people to watch.

'you see with your own eyes and thoughts' this leads on after which highlights the praise that the film gets for producing the film due to it being a nominee based on their hard work.

Near the end of the trailer they show another nominees award that they have got given which is quite spaced out from the previous award that they put up in the middle of the trailer they did this to show that the film is worth watching due to the praise from BFI festival which is a popular event which could attract an audience.

Voice overs to give and tell story:
A voice over of someone saying ' A child soldier, isn't that right jumah' which gives us a sense of the story and that he might get bullied or laughed at for being a child soldier as its wasn't said in the main characters voice which would make the audience intrigued about why hes a child soldier and why there's problems and how others have found out about it. its said in a creepy and sarcastic voice which seems like he is mocking him for being a child soldier as if being a child soldier is something to be marginalised by.

Title appears at the end:
it gives a sense of mystery as it makes you wait for the whole trailer till the end to see what its called so that you can search it up when it comes out. With the title being at the end its brings suspense as it forces you to watch it all and see the best bits before revealing the title. When the Title is placed at the end it sticks more in peoples minds as it's the last thing you see on a screen which gives an image in your head to refer to which is a smart advertising tactic as if it was at the start people would have the title to associate it to unlike when its at the end where you can associate all the images you have seen to the title which makes it more visual in the audiences minds.

Lots of emotions shown in trailer:
Trailer starts off with fear of them running away from the scene that they have just witnessed to jumah being in the headteachers office under pressure of him speaking out on what he has witnessed to other emotions such as him fearing that they will do something to him mother and him, him getting mad and releasing all his emotions through anger which means through him smashing mirrors, being in a fight so dealing with pain to him crying to his mother. The trailer shows various emotions which highlight the emotional roller coaster which this film offers as it portrays a life of a child soldier who had to kill which shows his weakness of emotions being shown when he deals with life.
